“Ekopartneris” first initiative is our current project under the name “Construction of bio-intensive power generation plants in Kaunas”. In spring 2014, in Žemųjų Šančių catchment, in the parcel located at L. Ivinskio str. 65 which JSC “Ekopatneris” leases under a rental agreement, constructions of new biofuel boiler-house are being launched. Renewable energy sources (biofuel) are being used for heat power generation.
Implementation of JSC “Ekopartneris” project received support from the EU structural funds, under the 2007-2013 Operational Programme “Promotion of Cohesion” 3. Priority “Environment and Sustainable Development” VP3-3.4-moe-02-K “Renewable energy resources for power generation”. EU structural funds for innovative project which develops renewable energy allocated 6 million Lt support. Total investment in the project will count around 18 million Lt.
Main objectives of the project which JSC “Ekopartneris” is implementing in Kaunas:
- increase the heat production from renewable energy sources;
- reduce the atmospheric pollution;
- ensure potentially greater efficiency and reliability of heat energy generation in the city of Kaunas.
New JSC “Ekopartneris” biofuel boiler-house project will contribute to commitment of Lithuania towards the EU energy policy and increase of energy security in Lithuania.
Technological indicators:
By implementing its project, JSC “Ekopartneris” intends to build a 14 MW boiler-house which uses biofuel with 3.5 MW heat power condensing economizer. It includes two 7 MW of nominal power biofuel-heating water boilers. In the boiler-house will be implemented innovative technology solutions, such as cogeneration reserve facilities, operating by using internal combustion engine technology, environment-related smoke purification equipment, such as multi-cyclone and electrostatic filter.
JSC “Ekopartneris” biofuel boiler-house will be the first electrostatic filter installed in Kaunas, which will help to ensure that the flue smoke cleaning will be performed according to more stringent standards than required by existing regulations of the Republic of Lithuania.
Over the year, it is planned to produce about 120 GWh of heat energy which would be supplied to the integrated heating network of the city of Kaunas. It will account for about 7 of the annual heat demand of the city of Kaunas.
In the scope of the project it is also included a cogeneration plant of 160 kW of electricity and of 180 kW of heat power, where electricity would be produced by electricity disruptions in external electric distribution network and supplied for installations in the biofuel boiler-house. This means that the plant will be used as a stand-autonomous unit and will ensure continuous heat generation in the biofuel boiler-house.
The boiler-house is adapted for solid biofuels, such as wood and its waste. The annual wood fuel demand for energy production would be around 57 thousand tons.
Heat generated in the biofuel boiler-house will replace a large part of heat energy produced by natural gas using-facilities of integrated network of heating of the city of Kaunas. In the biofuel boiler-house used renewable energy resources (wood and its waste) will help to reduce amount of emissions of harmful CO2 gas for around 25 thousand tons per year.
